The Weatherford Art Association (WAA) proudly announced the winners of its June Artist of the
Month competition, highlighting the creativity and talent of its local artist members.
The monthly competition allows WAA artists to showcase their work while competing for first-,
second-, and third-place honors. Selected pieces are displayed throughout the community at local
Weatherford banks and at the Weatherford City Hall, giving residents and visitors the opportunity
to experience a wide variety of artistic styles and mediums. First-place winners also advance as
candidates for the prestigious Artist of the Year award, which is determined by a membership
vote each June.

First Place was awarded to Kathy Cunning for her watercolor painting “Just a Little Off The
Top”, a vivid portrait capturing the concentration of a the artist’s sister cutting her great
nephew’s hair, its rich colors and close-up perspective drawing viewers into an intimate
everyday moment. Cunning’s winning artwork will be exhibited at the Weatherford City
Hall throughout June.
Second Place honors went to Jerry Shidel for his acrylic painting titled “Tulips on Table”, a still-
life composition featuring tulips on a rustic table, appreciated for its bold use of color and quiet
domestic charm. His painting will be displayed at First Bank Texas in Weatherford during the
month of June.
Third Place was awarded to Danny Huffington for his thread art “Reveille”, a detailed piece of a
collie against a bright sky creating lifelike warmth and expressive character. His artwork will be
on display this month at the Fort Worth Community Credit Union on South Main Street in
Weatherford.
The Weatherford Art Association is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting
the arts and supporting arts education within the community. In addition to exhibitions, WAA
