May 2026 Artist of the Month
Weatherford Art Association Celebrates May Artists of the Month
The Weatherford Art Association (WAA) proudly announced the winners of its May Artist of the
Month competition, highlighting the creativity and talent of its local artist members.
The monthly competition allows WAA artists to showcase their work while competing for first-,
second-, and third-place honors. Selected pieces are displayed throughout the community at local
Weatherford banks and at the Weatherford City Hall, giving residents and visitors the opportunity
to experience a wide variety of artistic styles and mediums. First-place winners also advance as
candidates for the prestigious Artist of the Year award, which is determined by a membership
vote each June.
First Place was awarded to Patrica Harder for her watercolor painting, Stargazer Lilies. a
watercolor that bursts with energy: pink lilies unfurl amid splashes of yellow-green, the petals
layered and expressive. The piece feels loose and slighlty impressionistic, with visible brushwork
that suggests movement and spontaneity, as though the flowers are still opening before the
viewer. Harder’s winning artwork will be exhibited at the Weatherford City Hall throughout
May.
Second Place honors went to Barbara Carey for her watercolor titled Paradise Bird. A bright
botanical study captures a bird-of-paradise flower in full bloom, its orange and blue petals
sharply defined against lush green leaves. The composition is clean and focused, emphasizing
the plant’s sculptural form and tropical intensity. Her painting will be displayed at First Bank
Texas in Weatherford during the month of May.
Third Place was awarded to Rita Bodiford for her watercolor, Purr-fect Gaze. a softly rendered
portrait of a cat offers a quieter, more contemplative mood. The feline’s face fills the frame, its
pale fur washed in cool tones of blue and gray, and its green eyes luminous and alert. The
delicate blending of color gives the portrait an almost dreamlike quality.
Her artwork will be on display this month at the Fort Worth Community Credit Union on South
Main Street in Weatherford.
The Weatherford Art Association is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting
the arts and supporting arts education within the community. In addition to exhibitions, WAA

growth among its members.
Monthly meetings are held at the Weatherford Senior Center, located at 1225 Holland Lake
Drive, from 6:00 to 7:45 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month, except December.
